Buying the right air compressor might not seem like a hard thing to do, but there is a lot more that you should take into consideration than meets the eye. You want to make sure that you are getting exactly what you need at the price that you need it at. You don’t want to waste your time or money going from store to store without a clue. Let’s face it, these days not everyone takes the time out to learn about compressors and what they need to know to pick up a great one.

The Price Tag

The first thing that you want to consider when buying anything is how much money you are willing to spend on it. You don’t want to spend too much but you don’t want to spend too little. Many people have the bad idea to go in with the cheapest option, and then they wonder why they have problems with the product later on down the road. The old adage “you get what you pay for” comes to mind. Do quick price comparisons of as many stores as you can find, and then you can come up with a price that you are comfortable paying depending on the features you are looking for.

After deciding how much you are willing to spend, you should decide on what you are going to need as far as features and PSI. Are you going to be using this compressor for light stuff around the house? Is this going to be a commercially used compressor? Often times people over do it and buy a large compressor that they don’t need for their home. The smaller compressor with 150 PSI should be plenty sufficient for day to day use around the home and yard. Then there is the even smaller one that doesn’t have a tank on it. It can be used for small projects as well, like blowing up tires and things of that nature that don’t require as much.

You can also get into the horsepower as well. Obviously the more demanding work you are going to be doing the more horsepower you should have. Most of the motors that you are going to see on compressors are going to range in the 1.5 to 1.6 area. There aren’t many jobs in which you would need any more than that.

Making Your Choice

Once you have found a few that you like at the prices that you like, you can then begin to narrow it down to your final decision. One thing you will also need to look at is if you need a portable version or a stationary version. Often times you can also buy the same model used off the Internet or locally and get a heck of a deal on it. So, don’t be discouraged if it is a bit out of your price range. You should also try and find some sort of warranty or guarantee if you can on the product before you purchase.
